The day it rained only over my house,
I stared out the window and was wondering why.
I crept back under the covers and listened.
The incessant pounding filled my ears.
The gray light seduced my senses to sleep,
I felt tranquil, placid, and a great peace.
Time seemed to stop to a stay.
Across the street the sun shined.
I stared out the window and was wondering why,
I heard the rain and yet kids did play.
A veil of gray around me remained,
apart from my house the sun smiled.
I thought to go, to leave, to venture for a while,
maybe the rain would stop, I stayed.
The drumming continued but was hiding,
I forgot it was there and lying.
Beyond the veil the sky was blue.
I stared out the window and was wondering why.
Beyond the veil the colors were true,
but could I be sure?  Was it a lie?
I thought to go, to leave, to venture for a while,
but I was fine, I was alive.
All of a sudden a ray broke through the veil.
The colors were true and the light was bright.
The sun smiled and called,
I stared out the window and was wondering why.
Will the rain stop? Will it stay?
The time was waning in the day.
The day it rained only over my house,
I paced, strained, and grabbed the door.
I ran and never looked back,
and I was happy, I was alive.
The day it rained only over my house,
I stared into the sky and was wondering why.
