I have been fortunate enough to receive my fair share of free tickets over the years, mostly to professional sporting events. Over the past year alone I have received free tickets to 3 NHL hockey games, 1 NFL football game, and 1 college football game. Free tickets are always a good thing, and should almost always be accepted when offered!
A few weeks ago I was given a free ticket to a Nashville Predators hockey game in Nashville versus the Ottawa Senators. After walking into the Sommet Center a nice lady approached my friend and I and asked if we needed tickets, even though we had a few free vouchers we were about to exchange, she said if we wanted her tickets we could have them. They were lower level tickets which were valued over $80 so we took them!
When a free ticket is used it is really a win-win situation. When the game is not so good, or your team gets blown out, then at least you have not wasted any money getting into the game. On the other hand when the game is a great competitive match-up, or your favorite team dominates their opponent, then you have gotten well more than your moneys worth, because the money you spent getting into the game was zero.
A few weeks ago, prior to the Predators hockey game against Ottawa, I was at another Preds game versus the St. Louis Blues. I had gotten in for free thanks to my friend Rick, and I was tired from working all day. It seemed like the Blues were the stronger team and they were winning for the entire game, but the Preds kept hanging around and were down 3-2 in the final period. Nashville was on a power play for 2 minutes and their was only 2:05 remaining in the game. The Preds kept passing the puck around as time ticked away, the crowd was getting testy and yelling “shoot the puck!” and “take a shot!”, among other things. The power play ended and it looked like the game was over, but just before time ticked away Jason Arnott slapped in a shot with 3 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 3-3! The Sommet Center erupted and the crowd, including myself, went nuts! The Preds ended up winning the game in overtime in a shootout. I definitely was glad I went to the game and I have actually become more of a Predators fan because of that game.
If you are a big sports nut like myself then I recommend never turning down a free ticket. You may become a fan of a sport, a team, or a player that you didn’t care much for prior to seeing them play live. You should ALWAYS accept free tickets and if you can not attend yourself then SEND THEM TO ME! 🙂
