Being that we here at What To Do About.com are on the cutting edge of things… we were shocked that we have not written on aggressive moose and what you should do about it…. er, them. We want to make sure you and your family are safe, so pay attention to these tips on dealing with aggressive moose.
First, you want to think of aggressive moose like a tired, worn out woman who has been trudging through the snow for 8 hours. Anything or anyone who might get in her way is in trouble. If she perceives you as a threat, whether or not you are really a threat, you will be dead meat… moose meat, if you will.
In this aggressive state, any companion of yours is also in danger. Not only in danger, but also, possibly, the cause of your own demise. So if you have a dog, which as you know is man’s best friend, the moose, or woman, may view your dog as a threat and decide to kick and charge. Do not let your dog bark at a stressed out moose.
Sometimes during the mating season, moose can be more aggressive. Enough said.
You may have the inclination to feed moose… or a stressed, tired, worn out woman. But beware, oh beware, both might bite your hand off. If the next person comes along and has nothing to feed them, then they can become even more aggressive and do some serious damage. So think of all the future generations and people that will come into contact with the moose, just back up slowly and leave them alone.
If you are in the unlucky position of having a moose charge at you, do not make funny faces! Do not laugh at it. Do not throw stuff at it. Take cover and jump behind a tree or rock or table. If she starts kicking or throwing stuff at you, continue to try and distance yourself and use the tree, rock, or table to protect yourself. Many times a charge will just be a “bluff”. They are just trying to scare you. As mentioned previously, just back up slowly and leave them alone. Don’t try to talk it out, don’t try and feed them.
Remember, don’t take the law into your own hands. A moose with a long history of unprovoked or vicious attacks will be shot by official enforcement officials (official officials) in order to protect the public’s safety.
We can co-exist with moose… even the aggressive ones!
